Two youth drown

KULITHALAI: Two youth who had come to participate in a temple ritual, got drowned in the swirling waters of River Cauvery at a bathing ghat near here on Tuesday.

Police said that M.Balaji (21), S.Prabhu (20) both belonging to Ragalapuram in the neighbouring Dindigul district had come along with their relatives to participate in a temple ritual at Thimmampatti near here. The community members were taking the deity for conducting rituals at the Thanneerpalli bathing ghat. The duo along with K. Kothandaraman (19) of Thimmampatti was frolicking in the water when a strong current swept them away. Kothandaraman managed to swim to safety but the two others could not save themselves.Immediately the relatives informed the Fire and Rescue Services and the unit could locate the bodies only later in the evening. The bodies were moved to the Kulithalai Government Hospital for post-mortem.
