TIRUCHI: His zest for life is palpable from his hearty laugh. Prakash Raj comes across as someone who, as his character in ‘Azhagiya Theeye' puts it, chases his dreams. Speaking to The Hindu, the actor-cum-producer says he is pleased with the way the movie has shaped up . “I am very sure ‘Inidhu Inidhu' will hit the bull's eye at the box-office,”said Prakash Raj who was here to launch the audio of the film.

His production house Duet movies has churned out critically and commercially acclaimed films like ‘Azhagiya Theeye', ‘Mozhi' and ‘Abhiyum Naanum'. “The quality of our work is improving with every film. ‘Inidhu Inidhu' is a sign of that,” smiles Prakash Raj who has not acted in the movie.

He is unfazed by the prospect of his film being compared with the Telugu original- ‘Happy Days'. “The audience expects a certain standard in my films and I am confident of delivering the goods”. Prakash Raj also feels the concept of promoting films has evolved considerably.

He also talks about the futility of making a film which would cater to every section of the audience.

Having carved a niche for himself as a producer of feel-good family entertainers, isn't it paradoxical when he acts in ‘masala' flicks? “In India, you have to entertain different kinds of people. I do a ‘Ghilli' as well as a ‘Kanjeevaram'. I am not averse to doing commercial films as long as they are not crass”, clarifies Prakash Raj who turned director this year with the Kannada film ‘Nannu Nanna Kanansu'.

Definite agenda

The National Award winning actor, however, has a definite agenda as a producer. “Prakash Raj, the producer, is different from the actor. I am very clear about the kind of films that I want to make.” In the tinsel town where formulaic fares rule the roost, what drives him to make such films? “I produce movies which I personally enjoy watching. With lovely friends like Radha Mohan sharing a similar passion, the end result is good”, avers Prakash Raj.

So what's on the anvil for the hit duo? “He is directing ‘Payanam' for my banner. I play a crucial role in the film. Only five days of shooting remains to be completed,” informs the versatile actor.

Quiz him whether personal issues affect his work and the reply is spontaneous. “I don't see things as problematic.”
