‘There will be photos, contact details and a write-up about each inclusion'
The directory will take six months to hit the stands
BANGALORE: Running cultural institutions could be a difficult task if there isn't a single source containing information on artistes. While there are professionally compiled directories with address and contact details of artistes, cultural organisations such as Ananya and Drishti want to add much more in the “Artistes Info Directory” that they have started work on.
“We are aiming at a ready reckoner with ‘who is who' and ‘what is what' in the field of classical dance and music, Yakshagana, painters, art-related establishments, music services and theatre personalities,” said R.V. Raghavendra of Ananya.
The organisations, which promote cultural arts, feel that their initiative, which will take six months to hit the stands, will benefit organisations, artistes, and connoisseurs.
Mr. Raghavendra said, “What will make our directory more exhaustive are the photos, contact details and the write-up about each inclusion. If it's Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma, for example, apart from being classified under percussionists, there will be a brief write-up about his own percussion ensembles, important musicians to whom he has provided mridanga-pakkavadhya, awards and honours he has received, and other tidbits that convey his stature in the music world.”
A panel has been formed to look into the eligibility criteria and about 1,500 to 2,000 entries covering all artistic fields will be mentioned. Call 99809 91110, 98455 55422 or 98455 55411 for details.
