Nagercoil: The Neyyoor – Monday Market Lion's Club organised the installation function and the new office bearers took oath. The club has decided to cooperate with the Collector, Rajendra Ratnoo, who took the initiative to ban plastic items in Kanyakumari district. The president of the club, R. Arul Kannan, said that it has been decided to adopt a village and various welfare measures would be taken. This includes organising medical camps, providing quality education and planting a sapling in each and every house and awareness programmes would be held on global warming. Moreover, assistance would be sought from the district administration to identify mentally-ill persons in different parts of the district to uplift their socio-economic status. Later, he distributed school uniforms to 45 students belonging to rural areas. Besides, stationery items such as note books and bags were also given. Moreover, callipers to physically-handicapped persons, sewing machines and saris to widows and play materials to the anganwadi centers were provided. V. Rajasekar, secretary of the club, Ramesh, former president of the club and the representatives of various Lions Club in Kanyakumari district attended the function.
