MUMBAI: Niranjan Hiranandani, who has a look-out notice against him from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was on Wednesday granted interim bail till August 13 on a personal bond of Rs. 1 lakh, CBI prosecutor Ejaz Khan told TheHindu over telephone.
Niranjan and his brother Surendra are wanted in connection with a case of evasion of provident fund.
“The court's order directs Niranjan to attend the CBI office as required and cooperate with the investigation. He cannot leave India without the court's permission,” Mr. Khan said.
Niranjan is expected to be at the CBI office on Thursday. There is no news about his brother.
Mr. Khan opposed the bail saying the brothers had conspired with officials of the Regional Provident Fund, which would make it difficult to gather evidence.
The CBI has to file a detailed reply to the bail application by August 13.
The defence argued that the investigation had been on for three years. The CBI registered the case on March 3, 2008.
The Hiranandanis allegedly cheated their employees of their provident fund dues.
