CALL OF SCIENCE: Students take a look at an exhibition ‘India in Space,' jointly organised

Kochi: A three-day exhibition on ‘India in Space' jointly organised by Toc-H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) began at the institute campus at Arakkunnam, near here, on Wednesday.

C.V.K. Prasada Rao, senior scientist at the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), who inaugurated the exhibition, said oceanographic research invariably required help from space science and that the two shared a special relation. Later, during an interaction with students, he urged them to study pure science in-depth. The exhibition, open to school and professional college students and the public, features replicas of ISRO's launch vehicles and sounding rockets, models of the Vikas engine (liquid engine used in PSLV and GSLV) and cryogenic engine, a concept model of the proposed Reusable launch Vehicle (RLV), models of the Moon Impact Probe (MIP) of Chandrayaan–I and the like. Featured in this category are the Space Capsule Recovery Experiment and the proposed Chandrayaan-II, to name a few. Saira Banu, the Science Club Coordinator of the institute, said that the exhibition would expose engineering students to pure science.
