As many as 3,000 NCC cadets will participate in the relay Plan to highlight ‘Right to Play' of children VISAKHAPATNAM: The Queen's Baton 2010 relay, in the run-up for Common Wealth Games to be held in New Delhi, will arrive in the city for a day's festivity on August 16. Informing this to media persons here on Thursday, Principal Secretary of Sports and Youth Services A.K. Parida said the Queen's Baton will arrive from Hyderabad by flight at 1 p.m. at Visakhapatnam airport. After covering the main thoroughfares in the city, it would reach Swarnabharathi Indoor Stadium at 6 p.m. where a cultural programme and felicitations to reputed sportspersons would be organised in the presence of people's representatives and officials. “As many as 3,000 NCC cadets, mostly Naval cadets, will participate in the relay. Also, employees of industries, IT companies like HSBC, Wipro, Tech Mahindra and others will take part. The city has 20 lakh population and we are expecting at least one lakh to participate and make the rally a success. We want to highlight the ‘Right to play' of children, particularly in the rural areas, on the occasion,” he stated. Mr. Parida said the Queen's Baton would arrive from Raipur to Hyerabad on Aug. 14. After two days of stay in the State capital, it would arrive in Visakhapatnam. “From Vizag, it will be taken on Aug. 17 morning in an Army convoy from Bhubaneswar with 26 vehicles to Vijayawada. On Aug. 18, it will leave Vijayawada for Tirupathi and on Aug. 19 morning from Tirupati to Chennai,” he disclosed. District Collector J. Syamala Rao and other officials were present.
