2 high-yielding cashew varieties developed

Bapatla: After years of research, two new high-yielding cashew varieties have been developed at Cashew Research Station in Bapatla.
The two varieties -- BPP-10 and BPP-11 -- will be released in the market soon, according to K. Venkata Ramana, head and senior scientist, Cashew Research Station.
Dr. Ramana said that the new varieties bear more number of fruits per panicle, have high shelling percentage from 28.5 to 29.3 % and high nut weight of 8.1 g and 6.8 g respectively.
The mean annual nut yield of these varieties at 12th year of harvest range from 14.7 to 14.9 kg per tree, he said.
As many as 139 genotypes, including 32 varieties, have been collected and were being maintained at the research station.
