Villagers kill panther

Sad end:The panther that was killed by villagers of Venkatapuram in Anantapur.

Anantapur: A panther was killed by villagers of Venkatapuram in Bukkarayasamudram mandal in the district in the wee hours of Thursday after it strayed into the village and killed a sheep and injured two of the flock.

The villagers alerted the forest officials who came to the village unarmed and were not prepared to trap the animal. The panicky villagers attacked the animal which was hiding in the bushes with sticks.

Several country dogs too attacked the animal which was immobilised and killed. Forest officer Ramaiah Choudhury and was questioning the villagers for the killing of leopard.
