Steps taken to tackle TASMAC staff strike
Special Correspondent
VILLUPURAM: In the wake of an indefinite strike call given by certain associations of TASMAC retail vend employees, the district administration has made arrangements to run the shops without interruption, according to Collector R. Palanisamy.
He was speaking at an official meeting convened here on Friday. The Collector said that there were 6,700 TASMAC retail shops in the State employing 29,500 people on consolidated pay.
However, certain associations of employees had proposed to go on an indefinite strike from August 11, demanding regularisation of services and timescale pay. Mr. Palanisamy said that steps had been taken for uninterrupted functioning of shops in the district.
All the shops would have adequate stocks of beverages. For meeting manpower requirements to run the outlets, a list of eligible candidates had been called for from the district employment office.
Mr. Palanisamy also said that transportation of liquor from godowns to retail outlets would be done under police vigil.
Those who try to disturb the trade would be severely dealt with, he warned.
