Hoax call puts security personnel on tenterhooks
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: An anonymous call kept security personnel on tenterhooks at the Chennai airport on Friday evening.
Airport sources said one of the officers at the Automated Mail Processing Centre of the Postal Department received a call around 4 p.m. saying RDX had been planted on a Chennai-bound flight from Kochi.
They alerted the CISF and the State police. The security agencies checked the flights that landed from Kochi and no explosive substance was found. The sources said the call, which turned out to be a hoax, was later traced to a PCO in Kochi.
Visitors banned
Airports Authority of India officials banned the entry of visitors into the Chennai airport from Thursday night. A senior AAI officer attributed the ban, which will be effective till August 20, to security reasons.
