‘Hospitals fully equipped to treat swine flu cases'

HYDERABAD: The government confirmed that 22 persons succumbed to H1N1 flu from January till August 5, including three deaths on Thursday.
However, the deaths were mainly due to patients being rushed to hospitals in the critical stage. As a result even after extending best of medical treatment and ventilator support, such patients were not responding to the treatment, Health Minister Danam Nagender said here on Friday.
The Health Minister accompanied by the Health Department officials, told reporters that the district Collectors and District Medical and Health Officials were directed to step up measures to contain spread of infectious diseases like H1N1, diarrhoea, malaria.
Precautionary step
Referring to the admission of 19 nursing students to hospital with flu symptoms, he said it was a precautionary measure and swabs of 10 students were sent for analysis to Institute of Preventive Medicine.
