Workshop on new trends in aeronautics

HOSUR: Engineering students should develop a multi-disciplinary approach to achieve proficiency, said Dr. U. Chandrasekar, Additional Director, Science and Gas Turbine Research Establishment, Bangalore, here on Friday.

Inaugurating a two-day workshop on “Trends and Development in Aeronautics and Avionics'' at Adhyamaan College of Engineering in Hosur.

Dr. Chandrasekar pledged his whole-hearted support, including funding for designing an aircraft and establishing an Aero-Model Club at the college.

He promised that he could arrange lectures of eminent persons in all disciplines of engineering at the college.

He said that NASA was working on a Hypersonic Technology Demonstration Vehicle, the speed of which is 9,000 to 10,000 km/h. If it were to becomes reality one can travel from one part of the world to another in two hours. Dr. G. Ranganath, principal of the college said seminars/workshops would be conducted every week at the college. Those interested could register at the college website.

Dr. J. Arivudai Nambi, Head of the Department, Aeronautics, welcomed the gathering. The college has inked a pact with Taneja Aerospace and Avionics Limited. Accordingly, students of aeronautics would be trained five hours in six sessions on Saturdays. Each student has to finish 30 hours of practical training each semester.

In connection with the workshop, a proto-type model of a remote-controlled plane was test flight for 15 minutes. The students designed it at a cost of Rs. 36,000 under the guidance of P. Eshwar and P. Narayanan of E.N.R. Model Aircraft company, Bangalore. Students took more than a month to design it. Rekha Rajaraman, Lecturer, Aeronautics Engineering, was the convenor for the workshop.

A total of 268 students from 23 colleges in Tamil Nadu and Karanataka are attending the workshop. Chandramouli, Scientist, Aeronautical Development Agency, Bangalore; Charu Latha, Goodrich Aerospace Limited; and Kaja Hussain spoke at the workshop.
