Kolkata: The Centre seems to be exploring the possibility of having the Sainthia train accident probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is already investigating the Jnaneswari train accident case. A senior official of the State government told reporters at the Secretariat, that the Centre was exploring the possibilities of shifting the investigations of the Sainthia train accident to the CBI. " We will send our response after checking the status report of the CID probe", a senior official of the West Bengal State government told reporters at the Secretariat. Over 60 people were killed in the early small hours of July 19, when the Sealdah-bound New Cooch Behar –Sealdah Uttarbanga Express rammed into the stationary Bhagalpur-Ranchi Vananchal Express in the early hours of Monday in West Bengal's Birbhum district. A case was opened on basis of a complaint filed by a passenger of the Vananchal Express. CID probe On July 20, the State government had ordered an investigation by its Criminal Investigation Department to probe the case under several sections of the Criminal Procedure Code, to investigate charges of rash and negligent act resulting in death.
