Gollapudi Srinivas award function

CHENNAI: The Gollapudi Srinivas National Award for 2009 will be presented to Amit Rai for his Hindi film ‘Road to Sangam.' Instituted by Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Foundation, the award is given to the best debutant director since 1998.

The award ceremony would take place on August 12 at Kamaraj Arangam, Teynampet. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs.1.50 lakh and a memento. Actor Anil Kapoor will be the chief guest and actor Vidya Balan and director Madhur Bhandarkar would participate in the event. This was announced at a press meet held in the city on Saturday.

The film was chosen from 15 nominations in various languages, including Bengali, English, Marathi and Telugu.

A memorial lecture on ‘Mythology on Celluloid' would be delivered by actor and playwright Girish Karnad.

The Foundation's trustee Gollapudi Ramakrishna said this is the 13 {+t} {+h} year of recognising and motivating a debutant director with the award.
