VISAKHAPATNAM: Standing tall against the serene Bay of Bengal, the Kursura Submarine Museum, one of its kinds in south Asia, celebrated its eighth anniversary on Monday. Students from various schools and institutions visited the museum and learned about the history of INS Kursura Submarine that was inducted into the Indian Navy in December 1969 and decommissioned in February 2001. On the occasion, GVMC Commissioner V.N. Vishnu and VUDA Vice Chairman B. Sreedhar released a special booklet on the Kursura Submarine Museum detailing the rich history of the submarine.

He said the Kursura Submarine museum is the second one and a symbol of pride in the map of the tourism of Visakhapatnam. It is unique in the whole South-East Asia, he added.

Mr. Sreedhar said that nearly 2.5 lakh visitors from all parts of the country and world visit the museum each year. An average of Rs.60 lakh revenue is generated through the entry fee, a major share of which is used for the maintenance of the museum to prevent corrosion due to sea breeze, he said.
