Two countries on a single screen

Weeklong Indo-German film festival from August 20 at Lavanya



FOR FILM BUFFS:Entry to the film fest is through delegate passes only.

BANGALORE: The fourth edition of the much-awaited Indo-German Film Festival will take off later this month.

The Goethe Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, in association with Suchitra Film Society and Asian Film Foundation, supported by the Dutch NGO Hivos and Taj Enlighten Film Society, is set to present the film fest, called Two Nations, a Single Screen, from August 20 to 26 at the Lavanya cinema in the city.

Goethe Institut Director Elvin Hust, Suchitra Film Society president V.N. Subba Rao and filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli told presspersons here on Monday that eight German films and eight Indian films, apart from four children's films (two each from Germany and India), will be screened at the festival.

Launch

The launch is on August 20 at 6 p.m. with Mr. Kasaravalli's Kannada work Kanasembo Kudureyaneri (Riding the Stallion of a Dream) being the inaugural film.

The German films to be screened are A Year Ago in Winter, Jerichow, Storm, John Rabe, Soul Kitchen, Whisky with Vodka, Lila Lila and When We Leave.

The German children's films to be screened are Hands Off Mississippi and Hen in a Boat. The Indian films to be screened are Kanjeevaram (Tamil), Liberation (Kannada - Vimukti), Harischandra's Factory (Marathi), Bioscope, Man Beyond the Bridge, The Damned Rain and Ek Cup Chai (Hindi).

The Indian children's films are Gubbachhigalu (Kannada) and Photo (Hindi).

While the children's films will be screened twice in the morning (9.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m.), the other screenings are at 4 p.m., 6.30. p.m. and 9.30 p.m. on all the days during the festival.

The screening schedule, synopses of the films and other details will be available on www.goethe.de or at the Bhavan on C.M.H. Road.
