The players of the Bengal team who were felicitated on Thursday. KOLKATA: The Indian Football Association (IFA) on Thursday felicitated the Bengal team on its Santosh Trophy triumph in a colourful function organised at a prominent city hotel on Thursday. The celebrations assumed significance as the title returned to the state, which won it for the 30th occasion, after a prolonged break of 11 years. The function brought together former stars like Sailen Manna, P.K. Banerjee, Chuni Goswami, Aloke Mukherjee among others who joined the winners in celebrating the “memorable” victory. Also present was the commissioner of Kolkata Police, Mr. Gautam Mohan Chakraborty, who presented the players special mementoes. The victory for the squad, coached by the former Indian skipper Shabbir Ali, has earned it Rs. 25 lakhs as monetary incentives announced by state Sports Minister, Mr. Kanti Ganguly (Rs. 10 lakh), IFA, Chirag Group and the team sponsor Tower Group (5 lakh each).
