Harshith jumps to a new record

Bangalore: S. Harshith of Bangalore Sports Club set a new record in the boys' under-18 high jump, on the opening day of the 22nd Karnataka State Junior Athletics Championship, at the Kanteerava Stadium here on Thursday.

Harshith jumped 2.01m, erasing his own record of 1.97 set last year.

“I managed two metres in practice this year; so I expected it,” said the 16 year-old.

There was yet another record in the high jump events, Kundan Kumar of Indian International School jumping 1.60m in the boys' under-14 category. Kundan erased Ashwin Kumar's record of 1.52m, set in 2008.

The MEG ‘A' men's relay team too set a new record, in the 4x400m relay. The quartet clocked a collective 3:18.9s, eclipsing the 3:20.1 set, also by an MEG team, in 2000.

Deepak delights

Deepak's brace helped SAI ‘A' trounce MLI, Belgaum 5-0 in a Travancore Cup hockey tournament match at the KSHA Stadium here on Thursday.
