Work on fishing harbour begins
Staff Reporter
Kasaragod: The Left Democratic Front government could implement Rs.30,000-crore worth projects in the fisheries sector, Fisheries Minister S. Sarma said here on Friday.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the works on the Cheruvathur fishing harbour. The State could commission seven fishing harbours in the State in the last four years, he said.
The work would be completed in three years. The estimated cost is Rs.30 crore. Work on the proposed fishing harbour at Manjeswaram would commence this year.
The Fisheries Department had sanctioned Rs.7.50 crore for constructing the Valiyaparamba foot overbridge at Ramanthali, near Payyanur, he said. Mr. Sarma, who also holds charge of the Registration Department, said the Cheruvathur town would be renamed as Kuttamath Nagar, after poet Kuttamath.
