“Purdah a personal issue”

HYDERABAD: Wearing headscarf and ‘purdah' are personal freedom related issues and no organisation can compel an individual to sport them, the A.P. unit of Popular Front of India, a voluntary organisation, said on Friday.

They were reacting to the petition of a woman, Ryhana R. Kazi of Kasaragod in Kerala, filed in the High Court there that persons claiming allegiance to PFI threatened to attack her if she refused to wear headscarf and purdah.

“We believe in individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India and would not support any issue violating it,” the PFI executive council member, Syed Habeebullah, remarked, at a press conference.

He condemned reports aired by some Telugu news channels and published by a newspaper linking it to subversive activities and terrorist outfits.
