Six PFI activists held

KOCHI: The police in the rural district arrested six activists of the Popular Front of India (PFI) while they were holding a meeting and attempting to distribute propaganda booklets.
The police, led by J. Jayanath, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural, following a tip-off conducted a search at the district headquarters of the PFI on the Periyar valley campus at Uliyannoor on Friday evening.
The meeting was being held under the Ernakulam division secretary, Afzal. On seeing the police, the group fled. The police could arrest only six persons, including Afzal, 23. The others arrested were Habeeb, 25; Anwar, 33; Noushad, 28; Abdul Gaffoor, 37; and Jaffar, 39.
The arrested will be produced before the Aluva Judicial First Class Magistrate on Saturday.
