Memorable occasion: Salem Railway Divisional Manager P.N. Ram hoisting the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations in Salem on Sunday. - SALEM: Independence Day celebrations were held in Salem Railway Division here on Sunday. Its Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) P. N. Ram hoisted the national flag and took the salute at the Railway Protection Force (RPF) parade here on the premises of Salem Divisional Office. This was followed by a cultural programme by various artists of Salem Division. P. Kalimuthu, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division; Shail Ram, President, Southern Railway Women's Welfare Organisation; Vijayakumar, Assistant Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force, Salem; and the officers and staff of Southern Railway and their families participated in the programme. Residents As a part of the Independence Day celebrations, as many as 150 saplings of various tree species were also planted in the Railway Colony by the officers and staff who were also the residents of Railway Colony, as a ‘greening' effort, and also in order to take advantage of the monsoon period.
