KANNUR: A ceremonial parade was held at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, near here, on Sunday as part of the 64th Independence Day celebrations.
The parade, commanded by Commandant A.S. Nanda of the Indian Coast Guard, was reviewed by Vice-Admiral Anurag G. Thapliyal, Commandant of the INA.
Vice-Admiral Thapliyal presented commendations of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, to one officer and four sailors. One civilian of the Indian Navy was awarded a cash prize. Two personnel of the INA also received the commendation of the Chief of the Naval Staff.
In his address, Vice-Admiral Thapliyal reminded the cadets and the INA staff of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters during the struggle for Independence and the path set by them.
Highlighting the enormous challenges facing the country, both from within and outside, he urged the young trainees to develop a robust character, professional acumen, astute leadership, concern for fellow countrymen and an unwavering resolve when dealing with any situation.
The parade culminated with a march past by the platoons followed by the rendering of the national anthem.
The civilian fraternity and families of officers and staff of the INA witnessed the parade.
