Independence Day celebrated

ALAPPUZHA: Coir and Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran hoisted the Tricolour at the Recreation Grounds to start the 64th Independence Day celebrations of the district here on Sunday morning.

Mr. Sudhakaran, who hoisted the flag in the presence of District Collector P. Venugopal and District Superintendent of Police A. Akbar, took the salute and later inspected the parade accompanied by Parade Commander M. Rajan. He later presented the Chief Minister's Police Medal to head constable M.B. Sivaprasad (AR Camp, Alappuzha), constable T. Santosh (Haripad Police Station) and K.P. Manu (Punnapra Police Station).

The rolling trophy for the best donors to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund-2009 was presented to VVHS Thamarakulam, Mavelikara, and the Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Alappuzha.
