proving a point: Small Scale Industries Minister D.K. Aruna saluting the Tricolour during the Independence Day celebrations in Adilabad. ADILABAD: Being the first woman to hoist the National Tricolour here, Small Scale Industries Minister D.K. Aruna impressed one and all during the Independence Day celebrations on Sunday. She also evoked awe while inspecting the ceremonial parade standing in a jeep. Officials and others concerned were eagerly looking forward to Ms. Aruna's visit to Adilabad. She had agreed to grace the Independence Day celebrations as two of her Cabinet colleagues preferred to stay away saying they were ‘busy'. The Minister's expression of happiness in coming to Adilabad to participate in the celebrations was received well by the audience. It must have come from her heart because it was not included in the speech she was reading out. However, it was the ease with which the lengthy speech was read out on the occasion that came as a surprise to the audience at the police parade grounds. Reading out the long written speeches had left many a chief guest winded in the past. On five earlier occasions, former Minister G. Vinod was heard fumbling with words as he lacked fluency in Telugu. The suave Ms. Aruna was found to be at ease with English as well as Telugu as she kept on with the long winded sentences loaded with complicated statistics. The enthusiasm shown by press photographers and others of the kind to capture her images from close quarters spoke much about the effect she had on them. At one stage, policemen had to ward the cameramen off as they were getting too close for comfort. As the Minister went visiting the stalls, she was followed by a large number of people who perhaps wanted to see her from close quarters. Her agility was on display as she was making the rounds of the stalls or disbursing assets to the poor and needy.
