VELLORE: The Boiler Auxiliaries Plant (BAP) of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Ranipet, has received orders worth Rs.660 crores during the first quarter of the year 2010-11, according to A. Chandrababu, Executive Director-BAP. Delivering his Independence Day speech at the celebrations held on the BHEL premises in Ranipet on Sunday, Mr. Chandrababu said that while the BAP made a turnover of Rs. 2538 crores during 2009-10, its order booking during the year was Rs.3,254 crores. Last year, the BAP received the Commendation Award for Business Excellence in the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Exim competition. The Executive Director said that the productivity improvement techniques developed by the BAP's employees have been showcased in many national level Quality Circle competitions where its entries have won prizes and accolades. Mr. Chandrababu said that last year, BAP contributed Rs.10 lakhs to various social development activities in villages and towns around the factory. More than 100 sets of school furniture worth Rs.3.2 lakhs were distributed to four schools at Vallimalai, Arcot, Vannivedu Mottur and Kalpudur. A blood storage unit worth Rs.2 lakhs was given to the Primary Health Centre in Lalapet to support the post-natal needs of women. Sleeping cots worth about Rs.1.5 lakhs were donated to an orphanage in Katpadi. Last year, the BAP planted 4,500 saplings in and around the factory and township.
