PANAJI: Matanhy Saldanha, former Goa Tourism Minister and leader of Goenche Ramponkaracnho Ekvott (GRE), on Sunday criticised the Goa Government for “not doing anything to protect the common man's interests and rights, particularly those living in the coastal region of Goa”. According to a letter from the Union Minister for Environment and Forests to the Chief Minister of Goa in April, purportedly clarifying the position on the structures of fishermen and others to whom demolition notices had been issued, the State Government was supposed to file an affidavit in the Bombay High Court stating that they were entitled to have their structures along the coastal region, the former Minister said. However, the State Government did not file the affidavit, the former Minister said.
