Mysore races from Aug. 19

Mysore: About 700 horses are expected to participate in the 20-day Mysore race season, which gets underway on Aug. 19.

The newly elected Chairman Mr Chaduranga Kantharaja Urs told newspersons that a total stakemoney of Rs. 4,53,09,625 will be offered including cups to the value of Rs 10,40,000 compared to last year's amount of Rs 3.82 crores. The winner of this year's Derby is expected to earn Rs. 37 lakhs while the stakes for both the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas was increased from Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 20 lakhs and the Mysore Million becomes richer by Rs 4 lakhs. Almost all trainers of Bangalore and Mysore will be racing their wards. All jockeys licensed by Bangalore as well as jockeys of other centres will be seen in action.

The chairman further said that betting terminals have been upgraded with new software and thermal printers and scanners have been installed to increase the speed of totalizator transactions. Fifteen new betting terminals have been added to cater to more number of punters
