Balachandar triumphs

CHENNAI: S. Balachandar beat D. Mariappan 6-3, 6-3 to win the TNTA-AITA wheelchair tennis championship here.

Balachandar partnered Mariappan to win the doubles title too beating Neeraj Yadav and Rajeev Virat of Delhi 6-2, 6-1.

Balachandar and Mariappan had, as part of an ITF scheme, visited England for training last month.

Abrar advances

Md. Abrar of Don Bosco School beat Rajiv Sridhar (St. Joseph's) 8-6 to advance to the second round of the tennis event in the Bertram Trophy competitions.
