Confusion at passport centres

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Chaos prevailed at the two Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) in Bangalore on Monday with many unaware that walk-in applications had been stopped with the Union Ministry of External Affairs deciding to switch over to only online applications here.

Even though the Regional Passport Office has issued a public notification, a large number of passport applicants, who were not aware of the system, turned up at the two PSKs. While most were told to return after submitting the formalities online, some of them seeking passports under the Tatkal scheme were allowed inside.

Meanwhile, many passport applicants felt that the announcement about the change should have been made well in advance.

A senior officer at one of the PSKs said: “It will take some time for the people to come to know about the new system. However, we will accept applications from walk-in applicants depending upon emergency. Today, also we did accept several applications.” Additional police personnel were deployed at the PSK on Lalbagh Road.
