Panchayat-level sports competitions on September 15

KRISHNAGIRI: In view of former Chief Minister Arignar Anna's birth anniversary, panchayat-level sports competitions would be conducted at 268 community sports centres on September 15, a press release issued by the Collector, V. Arun Roy, said. The release also said that competitions should be conducted in the available grounds at the schools if there is non- availability of community sports centres.

School, college students and public can participate in the competitions on individual capacity or as a group. Competitions would be held on in categories such as sub-junior, junior and seniors.

The events include long jump, high jump, chess, carrom and 100 mts running race volley ball and tennicoit (for junior and senior women), the release said.

The first and second prize for individual events would be given cash award of Rs. 100 and Rs. 75 respectively and for group games it would be Rs. 300 and Rs. 200 respectively.

In connection with this a consultative meeting would be convened in all the ten panchayat unions, in which all the panchayat presidents and physical education teachers would participate.

As many as 268 physical education teachers would be assigned to conduct the competitions.
