Residents' council plea to Sreemathy

Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: The Residents' Apex Council of Kozhikode has urged Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy to ask the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) to dispose of the treated water from the purifying plant on the Medical College premises in the Arabian Sea, instead of draining it into the Connolly Canal.

In a memorandum, the council has said that though the KWA claims that the treated water can be used even for drinking, the residents are apprehensive and fear that the water may contaminate their sources of drinking water in the event of a pipeline burst. Hence, instead of taking the pipeline to the canal through residential areas, let it be taken to the Arabian Sea through Mavoor Road, the council said.

The council also suggested laying the pipes through an open drainage instead of keeping it submerged.
