Expo of pictures of The Hindu's Special News Photographer K.R. Deepak gets under way The exhibition will be open for all today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Police Commissioner J. Poornachandra Rao, former Mayor D.V. Subba Rao and others going round the photo exhibition put up by VISAKHAPATNAM: Describing the artistry of pictures taken by The Hindu Special News Photographer K.R. Deepak as “painting through camera.” Visakhapatnam Commissioner of Police J. Poornachandra Rao said that he had immortalised every aspect of the city through his camerawork. ‘Amazing quality' Inaugurating a two-day exhibition of photographs on cricket and nature at Palm Beach Hotel here on Tuesday, Mr. Poornachandra Rao expressed amazement at the quality of photographs from a lensman hailing from such a small place. To celebrate 20 years of his professional career and World Photography Day, Mr. Deepak displayed 90 of his best works from 2003 with the support from the Visakha Camera Club. “Usually, photographs from such cities do not find prime slots. But many a time, when I tried to look for the place or name of the photographer for an impressive photograph in The Hindu, it turned out to be from our own city,” he observed, and feared that he would be shifted out of Visakhapatnam for his excellent work to be utilised elsewhere. Wishing him name and fame the world over, Mr. Poornachandra Rao said Vizagites would feel proud of him. Former Mayor and president of Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association D.V. Subba Rao, making pun with the photographer's name, said Deepak (light) always showed the way in society. “This lensman has captured the light in his frames that have frozen the history in an angle many could not have seen.” Lasting impressions An ardent lover of cricket, Mr. Subba Rao, while appreciating several of the expressions of Sachin Tendulkar, keenly watched some of the frames in which traffic violations were blatant right under the nose of police personnel. Veteran sports writer and commentator and Centre for Policy Studies Director A. Prasanna Kumar, after going round the exhibition, promised to prevail upon the A.P. Bhavan authorities in New Delhi to display these pictures as part of the week-long State Formation Day celebrations from November 1. Minister for Tribal Welfare P. Balaraju and international cricketer M.S.K. Prasad also paid a visit to the exhibition. A small section of photographs taken by Mr. Deepak's father K. Bhaskar Rao, from whom the former learnt the basics, were also put up. A continuous stream of people from photographers' fraternity and other walks of life flowed into the Hall 3 at the hotel till 9 p.m. The exhibition would be open for all on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
