Ensure timely urea supply: Minister
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy on Tuesday directed his department officials to ensure by Wednesday evening that there was no shortage of urea. He instructed officials after reviewing the status of supply of seeds, fertilizers, farm loans and crop insurance scheme for the kharif.
Officials of several banks and insurance companies attended.
A press release issued by the Minister's office conceded that there was difficulty in securing urea in some parts of the State, although the stocks totalled 1.34 lakh tonnes. Mr. Reddy suggested to officials to divert urea from surplus areas to tide over the shortage until the stocks are replenished.
Displeasure
He telephoned the joint secretary in Union Agriculture Ministry regarding urea supply to the State.
The Minister expressed displeasure over the crop loans touching only Rs.8,000 crore as against the target of Rs.17,000 crore and wanted bankers to expedite the release process.
