Samvritha to be chief guest at pookkalam contest

KOCHI: Cine actor Samvritha Sunil will be the chief guest at the fourth edition of The Hindu-Metroplus pookkalam contest being conducted in Kochi on August 19, at Gold Souk, Vytilla.

Only 50 teams will be allowed for the contest on a first-come-first-served basis. Each team should have five members including the team captain, out of which three should be women.

The contest will be held between 9 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. at Gold Souk, Vyttila, Kochi. The refundable registration fee is Rs 100 per team.

The title sponsor of the pookkalam contest is Videocon d2h. The associate sponsors are Indica Vista (Tata Motors Ltd); TBZ-The Original (Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri Pvt Ltd); Mahindra Two Wheelers; Berger Paints and SBI local head office, Thiruvananthapuram.

The prize sponsors are Olympus Cameras (Olympus Imaging Corp) and the travel sponsor is Akbar Holidays (The Holidays division of Akbar Group). Gold Souk is the venue partner.

The regional prize sponsors are HPL India Ltd., Spice Rich Seasonings (P) Ltd., Periyar Rice, Kleansys, Fruitomans, Hairomax, Ayur Care and Lemon Tree.

The right to select the teams rests with The Hindu. The pookkalam can be in a circle or square but the diameter/length and breadth should not exceed 5 feet.

The pookkalam should have a minimum area of 19 sq.ft. and a maximum of 25 sq.ft.

Teams registered should report at the information counter at the venue at 8.30 a.m. for allotment of number and space in the hall.
