MADURAI: Following a complaint of robbery from a TASMAC salesman a couple of days ago in the Samayanallur sub-division, two-wheeler checks had been intensified in the locality, said Superintendent of Police M. Manohar. On Independence Day, when the salesman of the IMFL retail outlet at Ayyankottai was returning home in his two-wheeler at around 10.30 p.m., some unidentified persons intercepted him and snatched the cash bag. Normally, the daily sales used to be in the range of Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000. Since, it was a holiday and the sales high, he was reportedly carrying Rs 1.15 lakh. The robbers were aware of the high sales on that day and that the salesman would return home alone, Mr. Manohar said and added that the supervisor of the shop (who was supposed to be there) had been instructed to be present during working hours as there were complaints of his absence. Some suspects were being examined by a special team. Vehicle check In another case, four youths filled fuel in their two motorcycles at a petrol pump near Vadipatti when the cashier-cum-owner was alone at night. After threatening the cashier, they snatched the cash bag from him and fled. On a complaint, all check-posts between Vadipatti and Vilangudi were alerted but the culprits gave the slip. Though highway patrolling was in place, two-wheeler checks had been intensified. Teams led by Sub-Inspectors would carry out the operation supervised by senior officers, Mr. Manohar said.
