VIRUDHUNAGAR: Routine work in the Revenue Department came to a standstill in Virudhunagar district on Wednesday as employees continued their boycott for the second day. With no announcement from government regarding the demands of revenue officials, the Tamil Nadu Revenue Officers' Association declared that its members would abstain from work on Thursday too. They would hold day-long dharna in front of the office of the Revenue Divisional Officer in Sivakasi, said P. Pitchappa, the Association district president. Mr. Pitchappa said that the Rs.5 lakh compensation announced by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to the kin of each of those killed in the August 10 fire accident near Sattur included Rs.1.5 lakh from the government employees' family benefit fund. The association is demanding Rs.20 lakh as compensation to each family. Sivakasi Revenue Divisional Officer K. Kombaiyan has proceeded on a 10-day leave. The Association had demanded his immediate transfer.
