MAHABUBNAGAR: The indefinite hunger strike undertaken by three Bharatiya Janata Party leaders from the district was foiled by the police who arrested them on Tuesday night. However the BJP leaders said that they are continuing their strike in the hospital. The BJP leaders Nagurao Namaji, Vanam Jhansi and T. Achary undertook indefinite hunger strike on Monday protesting the damage done to one of the shutters of Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) project. Their demands include the immediate arrest of the culprits responsible for the damage to the project shutter. They also demanded the construction of a new one in the place of the existing one to ensure that water was supplied to all the 87,000 acres of land under RDS project in the district. A police team, led by DSP Geetha Devi, went to the BJP office on Tuesday night where the leaders were undergoing hunger strike. After prolonged discussions, the BJP leaders were arrested and shifted to the hospital. Protesting the arrest of their leaders BJP activists burnt the effigy of the government at Ambedkar crossroads near the Collectorate on Wednesday. They also demanded the government to find a permanent solution to the RDS problem. Meanwhile, scores of BJP activists were taken into custody by police at Jadcharla town when they staged ‘rasta roko' on National Highway 7. The BJP activists also organised ‘rasta roko' at Kotha Kota.
