Model textile factory proposed in Kozhikode

Comtrust HQ to be converted into a museum



Celebration: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim hands over a festival advance of Rs.5,000 to an employee of the Comtrust factory at Town Hall in the city on Thursday.

Kozhikode: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim said here on Thursday that the State government would initiate steps to convert the Commonwealth Trust Factory (Comtrust) into a model textile factory with modern facilities.

Inaugurating the distribution of festival advance announced to the employees of the factory on Thursday, the Minister said the package would be implemented after holding detailed discussions with various political party and trade union leaders.

Mr. Karim said the headquarters building of the factory would be converted into a museum, preserving its structural excellence. “The museum will be used to conserve the industrial history of the district,” he added.

The festival advance of Rs.5,000 was given to each of the 281 employees. A Pradep Kumar, MLA, presided. Mayor M. Bhaskaran delivered the keynote address. A.C. Rajan, deputy general manager of Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation and G. Ashok Lal, assistant general manager, spoke.
