MALAPPURAM: The State working committee of the Kerala State Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Confederation has demanded that the government withdraw from the move to deny Anganwadi workers their opportunity to contest the local body elections. A meeting of the confederation here on Thursday said it would be heinous on the part of the government to disallow Anganwadi workers to contest the elections, especially when 50 per cent of the seats were reserved for women. The meeting alleged that the government move was politically motivated. It asked the government to make clear the reasons for preventing Anganwadi workers from contesting the elections. The meeting demanded that the Chief Minister intervene to help the Anganwadi women. “If the government goes ahead with its plan, we will be forced to launch an agitation,” said Haridas Pulpetta, president, chairing over the meeting.
