‘Snehapookalam' bid to enter Guinness Book

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: ‘Snehapookalam,' a floral arrangement jointly organised by the Kozhikode district administration and the District Tourism Promotion Council, is making a bid to enter the Guinness Book of World Records and the Limca Book of Records for the biggest floral arrangement.

The pookalam expected to be of 17,000 sq. ft. will contain 5,000 kg of flowers. Over 1,000 people are involved in its making.

Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem told reporters on Thursday that the pattern for the Pookalam was selected from a number of entries, based on the theme of harmony. Seven types of flowers will be used in rendering it — chethi (marigold), mulla (jasmine), arali, kozhi poovu, tube rose, vadamalli and jamanthi (chrysanthemum). The pattern of the Pookalam will be divided into 400 grids and each team will be assigned a grid. The flowers will be brought on Friday morning from Palakkad in 15 trucks, he added.

The cost of the pookalam is expected to be around Rs.6.75 lakh.
