LUCKNOW: Not finding the land compensation offered by the Uttar Pradesh government acceptable, farmers of Aligarh and Agra districts plan to intensify their agitation. An action committee has been constituted in the Tappal area of Aligarh and the number of representatives swelled to 75 on Thursday, and may even go up to 100, following the decision of the leaders to include representation from as many villages of the two districts as possible. The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) has extended support to the stir. Its leader Mahendra Singh Tikait will lead a yatra from Sisauli in Muzaffarnagar district to Tappal on Friday. He will address a kisan panchayat, reports quoting union spokesman Rakesh Tikait said. Rally put off Congress general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh, Digvijay Singh, is also reaching Tappal on Friday to extend solidarity to the farmers. According to a U.P. Congress Committee spokesman, the proposed farmers rally in Aligarh on August 23 has been postponed. The former U.P. Chief Minister and patron of Jan Kranti Party, Kalyan Singh, visited Tappal on Wednesday.
