Goveas knocks out Nikshep

BANGALORE: Third-seeded Aryan Goveas of Maharashtra toppled the top seed B.R. Nikshep of Karnataka 6-1, 6-4 to storm into the boys' under-14 final of the Enerzal AITA Talent Series tennis tournament, conducted by Tennis Excellence, at Gardena Tennis Centre here on Thursday.

In the title clash on Friday, Goveas will take on the second seed S.L. Balaji of Tamil Nadu, who beat Statemate R. Ramakrishnan 6-3, 6-4.

Playing aggressively, Goveas broke Nikshep in the fourth and sixth games to win the first set 6-1. The trend continued in the second set as Goveas raced to a 5-2 lead before Nikshep took the next two games. However, Goveas broke back in the next game to win the set and match.

Goveas also entered the under-12 final with a 6-0, 6-1 win over fourth seed Dhananjay Vikram of Tamil Nadu. He will meet unseeded Abhimanyu Reddy of AP, who upset the second seed Dhruv Sunish 6-2, 6-1.

Preeti meets Shloka

In the girls' under-14 final, top-seeded Preeti Bhandurge of Maharashtra will clash with the fifth seed Shloka Kumar of Karnataka. While Preeti beat fourth seed Aboli Goghari 6-2, 6-3, Shloka prevailed over the third seed Abhipsa Rath 7-5, 6-3.

Boys: Under -12: Aryan Goveas (Mah) bt Dhananjay Vikram (TN) 6-0, 6-1; Abhimanyu Reddy(AP) bt Dhruv Sunish (Mah) 6-2, 6-1.

Under-14: Aryan Goveas (Mah) bt B.R. Nikshep (Kar) 6-1, 6-4; S.L. Balaji (TN) bt R. Ramakrishnan (TN) 6-3, 6-4.

Girls: Under-12: Aboli Goghari (Mah) bt Nidhitra Rajmohan (TN) 7-5, 6-0; Ria Vardhan (Mah) bt Prerana A. Kalwar (Kar) 6-4, 6-4.

Under-14: Preeti Bhandurge (Mah) bt Aboli Goghari (Mah) 6-2, 6-3; Shloka Kumar (Kar) bt Abhipsa Rath (Kar) 7-5, 6-3 . — Special Correspondent
