MANNARGUDI: Yagasala pujas for the Mahasamprokshanam of Sri Rajagopalaswamy Temple at Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district commenced on Wednesday. Holy water was brought from Bamini river in the morning. Kumbams containing holy water for Thayar and Perumal were taken to Yagasala and installed. First phase of yagasala pujas were held in the mroning. Thirumanjanam (abishekam) was done to Moolavar Perumal and Thayar in the evening. Second phase of yagasala pujas were held in the evening. There are 108 yaga gundams in the yagasala and nearly 200 Bhattacharyas and vedic sholars take part in the yagasala pujas. The pujas will go on till the morning of August 22, Sunday when the Mahasamprokshanam is to take place at 8 a.m. Mahasamprokshanam will take place for 16 gopurams including the Rajagopuram and 24 sannidhis in the temple. Elaborate bandobust arrangements have been made by the police for the festival. Transport corporation is operating additional buses. According to M.Chandrasekaran, Collector, about two lakh devotees are expected to attend the event.
