Parents of youths arrested by the police showing the copy of the petition and the FIR before submitting them to the Superintendent of Police in Krishnagiri on Friday. — KRISHNAGIRI: Two youths belonging to Kurava community were arrested from their residence in Nallavampatti village in Uthangarai taluk by police in plain clothes on Wednesday night without prior information or any reason, it is alleged. D. Ravindran, District Secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist) told The Hindu on Friday that this was a clear case of human rights violation by the police. Even after 48 hours of the arrest of the youths, the parents were not informed the whereabouts of their wards. It has become order of the day in and around Singarapettai area, he said. Hence, the party has demanded immediate action to trace the youths and inquiry by an officer in the rank of Revenue Divisional Officer to probe the whole episode and circumstances of the arrest during midnight. Mr. Ravindran also questioned why the police refused to register the First Information Report initially and later on budged when the parents underwent fast before the police station on Thursday night. Meanwhile, the parents of the youths Govindammal and G. Chennammal said a six-member gang in plain clothes entered their residence and bundled their two sons G. Chennakrishnan and G. Suresh in a Tata Sumo car on Wednesday night. They refused to tell the reason for the arrest and also refused to reveal their identity. When the women members of the family obstructed the team from arresting the brothers, they were beaten up by the gang. The parents also alleged that Inspector N. Ellappan had assured to produce the youths on Friday morning if the parents did not insisting on registering FIR in the presence of V. Govindasamy, taluk secretary, CPI (M). The Singarapettai Police has registered cases under sections 363, 323 and 354 of Indian Penal Code. The Inspector, who was away in Chennai on an official duty, was not available for his comments.
