‘Do not allow water to collect near home or place of work'

Of the 384 cases so far, 294 have been reported from MCD areas

‘A large number of individuals and organisations have been challaned'

NEW DELHI: The Capital on Saturday reported the highest single-day incidence of dengue this season with 36 people testing positive and taking the total number of cases so far to 384.

“Of the total 384 cases so far, 294 have been reported from Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) areas and 62 from New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) areas. The other cases are from the rest of the city or outside Delhi. MCD South Zone reported the highest of 81 cases followed by Central Zone with 79,'' said a MCD official.

He said this year has seen a spurt in dengue cases in comparison to the previous year when only three cases were registered by this time of the year. “Only 55 and 12 cases of dengue were reported in the same period in 2008 and 2007 respectively.''

“Since high prevalence of dengue is reported during October we advise the public to be cautious and not allow water to collect near their homes or places of work. We are trying to control dengue in the city and have already challaned a large number of individuals and organisations after breeding of mosquitoes were detected in their premises.

Notices have also been sent to 45,532 people and 6,125 of them were fined after mosquitoes were found breeding in their premises,'' added the MCD official.

Meanwhile, the Capital also reported 40 new cases of swine flu on Saturday.
