TAMBARAM: A 10-year-old girl died in a hit-and-run case involving a motorcycle and an unknown vehicle at Perumbakkam near Tambaram on Friday night. Traffic police said Manivel (36), a scrap iron merchant, is a resident of Sastha Avenue in Sowmya Nagar, Perumbakkam. On Friday night, his daughter Vasundhara Devi (10) asked for a pair of slippers and both went to the market on a motorcycle. When they were returning, the motorcycle was hit by a vehicle and the two were thrown off the bike. While Manivel escaped unhurt, Vasundhara Devi sustained critical injuries. She was rushed to a private hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. She was studying in Class IV at a private school in Medavakkam. Neither Manivel nor anyone near the accident spot had noted the number of the vehicle that hit the motorcycle..
