New Chief Information Commissioner chosen
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The State government has finalised the successor to the first Chief Information Commissioner for Tamil Nadu on Monday.
At a meeting presided over by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, a few names were considered for the post of the State Chief Information Commissioner and the name of an officer attaining superannuation soon was finalised. Since the State CIC is a constitutional functionary, a formal announcement will be made only after Governor Surjit Singh Barnala signs the order approving the appointment. The search committee comprises Leader of the Legislative Assembly K. Anbazhagan and Opposition leader Jayalalithaa. Ms.Jayalalithaa did not attend the meeting.
The State CIC, and the State Information Commissioners hold office for a term of five years from the date on which they enter upon their office or the date on which they attain the age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier.
