Organisers expect over 5,000 alumni to attend

BANGALORE : The alumni of the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) have planned to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the founder of their institution, by organising an alumni reunion.

Registrations for the UVCE Mega Reunion, on January 2 and 3, 2011, at UVCE campus near K.R. Circle, Palace Grounds, and Jnanabharathi campus of Bangalore University, to mark the sesquicentennial celebrations, began online (www.visionuvce.) on August 23.

The occasion will feature events covering various engineering, social and community issues and will have eminent national and international speakers.

One of the first

UVCE, one of the first engineering colleges in the country, was founded in 1917 by the pioneer.

Sridhar Gowda, an alumnus now working in the U.K., told The Hindu that given that the UVCE had shaped so many illustrious careers, “we all owe it to the college”.

The organisers are expecting over 5,000 alumni from all over the world.

“It will be the biggest alumni gathering Bangalore has ever witnessed. We hope this will inspire other colleges,” said Rajesh Srinivas of the organising committee.

Some of the UVCE alumni include member of the National Security Advisory Board M.R. Sreenivasan, former Defence Secretary V.K.
